Background

A.G.’s Martial Arts Centre is situated on the top floor of E.A Tailby’s Shoe Factory. The floor was opened on 25th September 1998 by Richard Bustillo, two weeks after Andy Gibney first took over the premises which had previously been occupied by Oldham’s Shoe Factory. Those two weeks consisted of cleaning and painting up to 16 hours per day to get it ready for the grand opening ceremony. The event went very well with a free JKD class that was taken by Andy and Richard.

A lot of water has passed under the bridge since then, indeed many students have passed through and we have seen many, many changes. A year after I opened up the first floor we took on the top floor as well and for a few years had both floors running, but eventually focussed all our efforts on the top floor expanding back into the building. The facility now has a newly matted floor space, an equipment room, a chill out room (more comfortable than your own living room) and the only toilets in the world with nunchaku’s for toilet handles!

What this means for you is that the environment is comfortable,as well as the welcome being friendly. During 2014 I have been working on developing the ‘Enigma’ programme which further encapsulates all areas affecting and linked to martial arts to make your learning experience more enjoyable and more effective. For all the other benefits of martial arts it is being good at self defence which is the primary reason for training.
